WHAT are you going to be??
Humans
The majority of the city's populate is human, sad to say. And the majority of the human population have no idea there exists a darker side to Chicago. There are bodies of humans showing up with the blood completely drained or with violent animal markings. Sad to say, that's what the human population is becoming for the more powerful species: food.
Vampires
These are not the sparkling daylight walkers of Twilight. No. These are the bloodsucking creatures of the night. They can seduce the best of them or use the gaze to trick even a nun to commit sin. What I will allow though is if the vampire has a magically possessed object that allows them to go in daylight like in Vampire Diaries. But keep in mind, these are RARE! Not every vampire is going to be allowed to have one. NO reproduction with a vampire. NO half-vampire, half-whatever.
Zoanthropes
Looks like Lycanthrope, doesn't it? Well, in a way, it is the same concept. Except be real. There can't only be werewolves in one city. Let's keep things interesting, guys. Lycan = wolf. Think of something different. Laurell K. Hamilton writes of wereleopards, weretigers, werefoxes, werebears.... Get creative. And remember when you create your shapeshifter persona, think of what the animal is like. Predators like leopards and wolves will probably have a more fierce attitude when compared to Swan Manes, which are wereswans basically. There is a difference between prey and predatory animals.
Demons
There are a multitude of demons. But please, lets keep these humanoid. There's plenty of creativity here, like what kind of powers and weaknesses they have. There are also different types: Succubus, Incubus, etx. Do some research. Put some thought into your characters!
Angels
With Demons, there are Angels. Keep in mind that if you are an angel, you're probably not going to be interested in murder, or other evil like that. You can be a fallen angel but still, try to link your character's personality to the species.
Witches
Witches, wizards, which ever term you prefer. This isn't Harry Potter so get creative. If you want to act like your character went to Hogwarts, fine, but its not the plot of this site. Not every witch/wizard use wands. In fact, you can posses just enough power to be considered a psychic with a specialty of tarot cards. OR you can be able to manipulate an element. But please do not try to create the most powerful witch/warlock alive. There would be ten of those if it wasn't monitored. So consider your power level, and don't be greedy.
Hybrids
This is where the lines get blurry. Everyone wants a half everything. But it's just not possible. So this is the only rule that will be imposed on your creative freedom: You can have hybrid species BUT there will be no hybrid vampires or zoanthropes. There are reasons for this. A vampire is either a vampire or not. The same for zoanthropes. Now, if you read the Anita Blake novels, then yes, someone can carry the zoanthrope strain and not shift. But it is still case of either or. You have the strain but don't shift, you're still a zoanthrope. Now that we have discussed the 'don't's, here are the 'okay-this-is-fine-with-me-go-ahead': go ahead and make some weird mixture of demon and human, angel and human, witch and human, etc. I've seen the measurements get down to one-eighths demon, etc. I only caution that you be reasonable about this but also THINK about the implications of what each part would cause your character to be like. Hell, go ahead and make half angels and half demons. Just think it through please.
