Rayna knew what she was getting into when she met Aidan. They had at a military ball for the troops. Her family owned the hotel that it was thrown in so of course Rayna was there. What girl wouldn't want to be amongst men in uniform? She just hadn't expected to fall in love with one of them. Rayna had been flattered when he asked her for a dance. What she didn't realize was that the night passed quickly in his arms.
Since he wasn't doing active duty, they were able to date on days off from the compound. Their relationship bloomed quite fast. Within months, Aiden had proposed and they found their dream house in Wicker Park. She hadn't wanted to live on the army base and she had always dreamed of a house in Wicker Park. It was one of her favorite areas in Chicago. The wedding came and went, leaving them in their little happy life with a baby being born mere months later.
What she hadn't expected was him being drafted to go to Iraq. She had cried the night he received the summons. But she knew that he had to go. As long as he came back to her, that was the only way she knew how to deal. It was a few months into this duty that Rayna was talking to his mom about Aidan and how their baby Shane was doing. The boy was almost one and it seemed like forever since daddy had been home. It was stressful but the only way for her to even get through the day is with his and her own family.
"You should definitely come by. Shane would love to see grandmama and papa. Wouldn't you hun?" The little boy only nodded, clinging to his mom with little hands. Rayna smiled a bit and kissed his forehead before finishing the conversation with Aidan's mom. Once she was off the phone, she readjusted Shane and poked his nose. "Wanna watch a movie?" She asked, to which the boy was excited about. She smiled slightly and checked her laptop screen, making sure her volume was up. If Aidan was able to skype her, she wanted to hear the call.
With a sigh, she cuddled up with Shane on the couch and put in How to Train Your Dragon, which was one of his favorite movies.
