Gage pouted when she pulled away from him but he didn't fight it. He chuckled when she kissed him, knowing full well that she left lipstick behind on his lips. He shook his head as he watched her leave and wiped the lipstick off of his lips carefully.
He grinned when he found her dressed and ready for the ball. "Amazing, Liv. You look amazing." Gage said softly before putting his tie on. After the tie was on, the waistcoat and jacket came on next, then socks and shoes. Straightening his jacket, he grinned at her and smoothed his hair down. "Are you ready to go?" He asked, checking his tie again in the mirror.

Liv nodded when he asked her if she was ready. "Yeah." she smiled, watching him fiddle with his tie again. She waited until he turned to look at her and reach her own hands up, fixing his hair and then nodding to herself. "Better." she teased, taking his hand and letting him lead her down to the car and off to the ball. She looked around once inside the hall and raised her eyebrows, impressed by the architecture and all.
For a while Liv held to Gage's arm and walked the room with him, meeting his peers and bosses. She smiled and was polite, but keeping quiet for the most part. She wanted to make Gage look good and what could be better than a pretty girl who wouldn't ask stupid questions or get carried away talking to the chairman of the board? Exactly. Though after a while of their talking and her being arm candy Gage was caught up with one the chairmen, the man was talking animatedly to him and so Liv went to get herself a drink. Though that would be the start of their issues..
She got herself to the drinks table, asking the boy serving there for a white wine, one ice cube which he dutifully got her. Though being out of range of Gage meant her powers returned. With full force and Liv found herself being flirted with from the boy, though she ignored, guessing why. Though what she didn't expect was the now group of men forming around her. It wasn't a massive gathering of me, just four or five, but it was enough to draw attention to her. Who would have thought having your powers negated for six months would cause them to overflow when released in a room full of men?
Liv backed up slightly and bit her lip, glancing over to Gage and hoping he wouldn't notice as she tried to stop the men from offering her drinks and.. various other things. She didn't know what to do. "Oh god." she murmured, looking around at the, mostly, older men and back to her boyfriend not sure what the hell she was supposed to do.

Gage had smiled and pecked her cheek, careful to not ruin her makeup. God forbid if he did that. Heh. He led her out to the car and let her get settled before taking her to the hotel where the event was being held.
It was no doubt that there would be a majority of men with dates here, though of course, there were a few female staff with their dates scattered about. Men of all ages were in the hall with wives, daughters, escorts... a variety of dates on everyone's arms. And Gage loved the one on his. Yes, she was gorgeous arm candy and didn't say much in front of his peers. Though he wouldn't have minded her talking, just so that everyone would know she wasn't a bimbo like some of the other dates were.
When Gage had gotten caught up with the chairman, he had smiled and let Liv go on her own. He would apologize later, hoping she would know that some men like the chairman got so excited about simple things. He also wanted her to feel comfortable enough to move about the room without being attached to his hip. She was her own woman... Though if he knew what would come of it, he would have been more careful.
It was quite a bit of time before Gage tore his focus from the man in front of him. What he saw confused him... It took a moment before his mind processed the scene of men and Liv in the center of it all. At first, he thought she was a good entertainer but then he noticed that she looked panicked. That was the first sign of trouble...
Excusing himself from the chairman, he made his way towards Liv, pushing his way through the crowd with a frown. Of course, as soon as he reached her, the crowd dissipated. He looked at the retreating and confused men before looking to Liv. "Did something happen? Are you okay?" He asked softly, placing an arm on her upper arm.

Liv blushed as he reached her, nodding slightly. "I'm fine." she mumbled and sighed, looking up at him. They'd all left when he came over.. Liv blinked a few times. Clearly she wasn't the only one with a secret. Though now she new she'd need to tell him about hers, explain to him what happened. "We need to talk." she murmured and sighed softly, looking up at Gage sadly. She knew him finding out what she was would be a big deal and she worried that that might mean the end of their relationship.
Liv led Gage over to the side, beside the French window and swallowed. "Gage, listen, I.. I'm not exactly who you think I am." she said and sighed deeply, letting her arms drop to her sides. She really didn't want to tell him the ultimate truth but she did. "I'm not.. entirely human." she breathed, her eyes flicking over his.

Too bad he doesn't know what his secret is. Gage frowned more when Liv mentioned that they needed to talk. Oh god... Those were the scariest words in the relationship world for anyone. And the look in her eyes didn't help what he was thinking either. Something was wrong and he wasn't looking forward to hearing what she would say. It had to be bad for her to look so sad...
Gage stared at her when she started speaking, confused. He didn't know about the second world that was intermingled with the humans. The possibility of something non human was foreign to him. "What do you mean? Of course you're human..." He said, blinking confused eyes at her. Just what is going on here?

Liv blinked slowly and shook her head. "No. I'm not. I'm only half.." she said lowly, letting her gaze drop to his chest before looking back to his eyes. "I'm sorry I never told you before.. But.. I'm half .. half demon." she admitted quietly and sighed. "And I don't know why but none of my powers work around you. You're the only one that happens with. So when you go.. they come back." she told him and bit her lip, moving her arms around herself. So there it was, she had told him what she'd learned. What she was. And now she was terrified he was going to walk away. She knew most people would. How would you feel finding out the person you're with isn't even truly a person?
Liv wiped her eyes carefully, small tears had been welling up. She had never felt this worry before, she'd never been so concerned about someone else like this. "I'm so sorry I never told you before.. I didn't want you to leave.." she admitted quietly. She reached up to touch his cheek.

The sound he was hearing? Yeah, that was the sound of his world crashing down. He stared at her as she spoke. Demon? And he somehow made her powers stop working? It just didn't make sense to him. But of course... She was un-naturally beautiful and all those men earlier. His eyes widened at the possibility that she was a demon. That thought scared him. And combined with the years of being taught to be a good Christian man, he had only understood demons to be things of sin.
Gage saw her hand reach up to touch him and all he knew is that he didn't want her to. He stepped back, watching her with his wide eyes. His eyes alone was evidence enough of how scared he was. He loved her. Or thought he had... What if that was a trick too? Was everything a lie? She said her powers didn't work around him but how could he believe that? He was just a human being.... He shook his head, a little too pale. "I-I can't... I can't do this.." He whispered, swallowing. With that, he turned and walked away, wanting distance from this person that he had thought he knew.

Liv let her hand drop, though raised it after a moment so she could wipe away the tears that were falling. She was humiliated and hurt. She swallowed hard and quickly walked back to the doors so she could leave and go home. She hadn't expected him to say those words, not the man who had told her how much he cared about her. She had expected him to be angry she hadn't told him sooner or upset but not that he'd want her away from him. She couldn't deny the sting she felt as she walked down the stone steps outside and went on to hail a cab and get home. The man driving asked if she was okay and she nodded, though of course she wasn't, she stared out the window at a complete loss. Liv .. was broken.
She made it home, paying the man and heading in to her apartment. The apartment she would soon not be leaving. She stopped her visits to the grocery store - she didn't want to upset him further by forcing him to see her and soon became slightly reclusive. Though the longer she spent away from him, away from the man she knew she loved, the harder her heart became. The more she felt nothing and the more she picked herself up with the words 'I need no-one'. And with that she was soon as cold as ice and not willing to open her heart to anyone - especially a man who would break it like Gage had.
It was only after a few weeks she ventured out, looking nothing like the girl he would have remembered. Gone were pastels and jeans, gone was her smile and in it's place was the embodiment of what she was - what he thought she was. Nothing but a demoness. But underneath, inside the hardened heart was the same love sick girl he had left that night. The same girl, though he hadn't realised it, was nothing but a girl in love, around him she had no powers, she wasn't a demon around him. Essentially she was merely a human in his presence. Though away from him? Hurt and shunned? She was nothing but what her father gave her, cruel and unforgiving. Which is all fine and well, unless he was to encounter her and disengage her power once more.
Liv walked along the path in front of the store where she had first met the man who broke her. She was heading out for the night. Who needed one man when she could go to a club and have so many fall for her? And she could weed out the one's who weren't worthy to touch her skin. Though if only tonight she had listened to her senses for things weren't going to go as she planned.
She found herself in the bar joined to the night club, sat by the bar and sipping a vodka martini she surveyed the bar, waiting on her.. prey. She would hurt man as it had hurt her.
kiss kiss. bang bang.

For the rest of the night, Gage had to mingle in the room alone and with a broken heart. People asked where his date went but he just said that she hadn't been feeling well and needed to go home. He managed to keep a straight face until he got home and was able to actually let himself feel the pain of his loss.
It was hard enough just not having around, but also having to deal with the fact that she had been a demon. But what she said hit a cord with him. Her powers didn't work around him? That didn't make sense. However, the proof was there that night at the party... He just couldn't let go of the fact that she wasn't human. It scared him...
He kept his regular routine of groceries and what not, not even thinking that he could have run into her at any time. But of course, he didn't. After that night, he hadn't moved on in the least and just pretty much let himself fall back into his old routine. Immersing himself in work to the point that sleep was almost never an option and quick fix meals or take-out. Gage missed her home-cooked dishes, he missed her in general.
Admittedly, he did some family research to try to figure out what the hell was up with him negating her powers in some way. He found rumors and stories of past ancestors who had 'powers' and such but he treated them as myths. Nothing real. How could they be? His whole life was just a regular life in his opinion until Liv came about...
Tonight was no different from the rest of his routine. There was no pleasure in tonight, just work. Even if him and his associates were at a bar. It was a very high end bar and it hadn't been his choice either. His associates thought it would be nice to have a few drinks while discussing business. Whatever, he had thought. If he had known what would happen, well, he may have changed his mind. Either way, he was at the bar, waiting on his associates.
As he waited, he ordered a simple beer, not really in the mood for anything stronger than that. He didn't want to get tipsy in the least, not in front of coworkers. He still hadn't quite recovered from losing her but what could he do? When not faced with people, he was just the quiet, distant man. As soon as his associates walk in, he would change. Until then, he just sat at the bar quietly.
Gage let his eyes wander around, just surveying the crowd and seeing if any of the others were here yet. Nope. Nothing. As he turned back to face his drink, his eyes caught sight of a dream in leather. It took a double take to see the girl in all black watching the bar. Liv...? No, it couldn't be. But as he stared, he saw that it was very much the girl he had been... was in love with. Seeing her like this, like some... predator, worried him somewhat.

Liv hadn't noticed Gage and since he wasn't in close range he wasn't effecting her powers yet and so she carried on, removing her jacket and placing it beneath her on her stool. She smiled at the boy behind the bar who then promptly brought her another drink. She thanked him with a flirty smile and sipped her new martini as she awaited her next male victim. Though she did notice Gage after a short while though she seemed to look through him before she turned back to the bar, her amber eyes looking over the bottles behind the boy serving the drinks.
Though Gage's associates were there by then, and they had noticed her. And the men were discussing her lowly - subtly wondering what a woman like that would be doing here alone. Though they were also wondering if perhaps she was a .. lady of the night. None of them recognized her as Gages former girlfriend. Which was probably for the best right then. Though Liv could spice things up if they came any closer.

Gage watched her sadly, noticing how she seemed to look at him but not really look at him. It did something to his heart to watch her show nothing towards him. Still, he noticed that he hadn't felt a weird pull towards her. Just the same thing that attracted him to her in the first place. Though this new look was less that amusing to him. He thought she could get attract more than the wrong attention and end up hurt in more ways than one, demon or not.
Hearing his associates talk like that about her just caused him to stay quiet and grip his beer bottle tightly. Gage didn't like it and no one seemed to notice this tidbit. Instead, he tried to steer them onto the topics that originally brought them here in the first place. When it didn't work at first, he had to excuse himself to go to the bathroom. In there, he washed his face and leaned on the sink, staring at the mirror. This was difficult for him. Watching someone he knew he loved act like a... prostitute. He sighed and took a minute before leaving the bathroom.

It wasn't for a bit until Liv really noticed Gage, she seen him go in to the bathroom and sighed deeply. Though when he returned he was to see one of his associates at the bar, talking to her and leaning perhaps a little too close to her though as Gage was closer, her powers switched off and the man blinked, though he didn't seem all that concerned he was leering at the girl. Liv looked back at Gage and raised her eyebrows. Especially as she seen his face as he approached them. As he spoke she shook her head. "This is your fault, Gage. All yours. This is what you expected me to be, wasn't it? You didn't care that in all the time I was nothing like this! Nothing! All that matters to you is that word and what you associate with it, doesn't it?!" she hissed at him, getting up from her stool so she could face him.
The weeks of anger and hurt bubbling to the surface as she faced him now. "You couldn't care less that I was nothing like a demon! You didn't care that I was just a girl who was in love with you! That didn't matter when you heard that one word and now that I've became what you thought I was you're upset? How dare you believe you act like you knew more about me than you did! So you didn't know that one secret, that one secret that didn't even fucking matter! Not even a little bit because around you it was gone! I was just a girl! But that wasn't enough! I wasn't enough!" she yelled at him, angry tears slowly falling from her eyes. As he was so close the hard shell around her heart was gone, she couldn't use her powers to block out her thoughts or feelings and once more she was the vulnerable girl he'd laid next.

Coming out of the bathroom had put him face to face with the situation of his associate hitting on Liv. He felt himself glaring before he knew what he was doing. When he realized, he approached the pair, frowning deeply and glaring at them. At her. As soon as he stepped close enough, he noticed his co-worker's attitude change. It confused him greatly but his attention was all for Live in the next second, ready to say something. Of course, he never had the chance.
Gage just watched her as she yelled, frowning and standing with his arms crossed. When she was finally done, he was silent for a moment. "Something like this doesn't matter? Really? Are you that delusional Liv? For god's sakes, yes it matters! If I have to fucking worry about other guys hitting on you ever time I can't be around you, then yes, it matters damnit! How can I know what is going on when I'm not around? I love you damnit but I don't know the other side of you! Of course I'm fucking scared! I've never met anyone like you Liv! I love the human side of you cause that's all I've seen! I don't know shit about the rest of you. What else don't I know?" He shook his head, glaring at the bar top now.

Liv shook her head at his words. "Most of the time these guys hit on me? Is because I want them to! I can control this! But the thing that night? I hadn't been from your side in six months! I hadn't been keeping a check on it! And the fact you don't trust me that I wouldn't do anything, whether they were coming on to me or not is twisted." she said, raising her shaky hand and wiping her tears. She licked her red lips and shook her head slightly, glancing away briefly. "What you don't know? That I loved you because you loved me for me, you didn't care about my imperfections.. And you know what hurts most? Is how wrong I was about you. You are just like every other guy I've ever met." she said and sniffled slightly, grabbing her coat and walking out the bar. She couldn't do it. She couldn't stand there and let him tear down all her walls again.
She walked quickly down the street, drying her eyes as best she could as she went. Though she couldn't stop the tears and so it was futile and so she gave up, walking on with her tears cascading down her cheeks, arms held tight around her self and feeling so terribly low. He thought she'd give in to the men who hit on her while with him? Well wasn't that nice. No. It wasn't. It hurt, probably more than most of the other things he said. He didn't trust her.

She had mentioned it again. The fact that her powers didn't work around him confused him greatly. What was she talking about? He checked the family tree and all he could find were just stories. What if they weren't stories...? Any one in his family that could have told him something is dead. But that got him thinking... was there someone in town he could talk to?
As much as he wanted to go after her, he couldn't. His associates were questioning him and he was just barely managing to keep them from finding out the whole situation. It wasn't long before he left, not exactly able to concentrate on business now.
It was about two weeks later when Gage sent a short and very out of the blue text to Liv. Can we talk please...?
